Friday 12 June starting @ 10am

Location: Australian Catholic University (ACU), 115 Victoria Parade in room 5.29 (Google Map Directions)

An academic seminar on inter-country adoption hosted by the School of politics and Social Inquiry. A day of exploring adoption from various international and social science (non-adoptee) perspectives with guest speaker from Canada Dr Karen Balcom alongside Dr Shurlee Swain and A/Prof Denise Cuthbert.

Saturday 13 June starting @ 10am

Location:  Mercy Lecture Theatre, Young St at ACU.

An all-day event designed to showcase the perspectives of adult adoptees (film makers, artists, academics and community volunteers) and their experiences of adoption through the creative arts and a panel discussion.

This special event will open with a playreading of Umbilical written by and about Dominic Golding, who was adopted in 1975 from Vietnam and plays out his life again at 13 years old, with a focus on his adoptive mother and 'imagined' birth mother. It is 1988 and Christmas time... some gifts are meant to be busted opened.

Followed by four films about adoption:

Missing by Kate Hers

Mothers and Daughters by Marlene Oostryck with Sue-Yen Bylund

Adopting Belinda by Jane Jin Kaisen and Tobias Hubinette

Girl in the Mirror by the NSW Post Adoption Resource Centre

Films have some adult concepts and language so not recommended for audiences under 15 yrs.

VIC Adoptee Film Event Committee: Dominic Golding, Simon Keogh, Jessica Walton, Catherine Robinson, Sofie Blichfeldt with additional support from Lynelle Beveridge and Indigo Willing. All are inter-country adoptees.
