This move is part
of an overall restructure of the provision of adoption services,
intended to increase
DoCS focus on adoption for
children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) and improve
long-term outcomes for these children.
The Adoption Information Unit (AIU) comprises the former
Family Information Service and Post Adoption Support Service. AIU
is part of DoCS’ Records Access Branch. Carol Scott is the
Manager Casework Adoption Information.
Intercountry Adoption, Local Adoption and Permanent Care and
Intrafamily/Special Case adoption services will continue to be
provided by Adoption and Permanent Care Services from
Ashfield. It is planned that eventually these services will be
provided by suitable non-government organisations who are
accredited to deliver such services. Mary Griffin will still be
Director of Adoption and Permanent Care Services in the interim.
A
new OOHC
Adoption Team comprised of
experienced adoption workers has
relocated to Operations Development at DoCS Head Office,
providing systems and support to facilitate OOHC adoptions.
Jennifer Ames is the Manager of this team. Others will
join DoCS
Regional OOHC teams to build skills and knowledge in the field.
This will make it easier for carers to access adoption and
permanent care services. Any questions regarding
OOHC adoptions should be referred to this Team on 9716 2935.
The new contact
details for APCS and AIU are below. All clients should present to
the Reception Desk at 4-6 Cavill Avenue when they wish to see an
adoptions worker or attend seminars
from Monday 3 March 2008.
