I was adopted in Hong Kong when I was 2 years old. My adoptive parents have two biological sons of their own. I was raised in Hong Kong and in Brisbane. Brisbane is where I now call home. My parents are still currently living in Hong Kong.
In 1996 I was reunited with my birth mother in Hong Kong and during this time I also discovered that I have 2 half sisters and a half brother. I also discovered that I have aunts and uncles too and grand parents too. Upon meeting my birth family I was informed I am 5th generation Hong Kong.
My experience in adoption education and networking covers
many years and involves a range of volunteer roles and projects in Brisbane.
This includes being the QLD Rep for ICASN (2009 onwards) and working on several
collaborative projects between ICASN and AVI such as The Adult Adoptee Panels at
International Day Festivals (2005 onwards) and on the Touring Transcultural
Adoptee Films Event (2009), both in Brisbane.
I have also been one of the rotating representatives for ICASN at The QLD
Legislation Review Community Consultation process (2005 onwards), as a volunteer
at Jigsaw QLD (2003 onwards) and as a committee member for the IAFQ
International Day Committee for several years (2005 - 2007). As an
individual, I am also a paid educator/speaker at the QLD Dept of Families ICA
Unit Education Sessions for prospective adoptive parents, which are held several
times a year (2006 onwards). My other interests in adoption include advocating
for post-adoption resources and encouraging the growth of resources for teenage
adoptees.
My professional experience is in IT, where I am employed
with a private company and I also run my own computer business, which provides
home and personal services for individuals who need IT advice and support.
Above all, I love socialising with my friends and offering support and
networking opportunities for inter-country adoptees.
