| The Inter-Country Adoptee
Support Network (ICASN) has been set up to provide support to Adoptees
who have been adopted cross-culturally. The term Inter-Country Adoptee (ICA)
generally refers to those who are raised in a
country of origin different to their country of birth but will be used
loosely within ICASN to include any adoptee who experiences cross-cultural
aspects of adoption. The purpose
of the Inter-Country Adoptee Support Network (ICASN) is to
provide support emotionally and culturally to ICAs, as
an avenue for exploring the issues of trans-racial adoption in as
positive a manner as possible. Often the
journey of exploring adoption issues is a private and sometimes painful one
and it is our hope that in reaching to others who
have shared a similar journey we may assist ICAs to grow and find peace
within themselves. Often ICAs have not
met another ICA before. We try to provide a network
as a place of belonging with people who
have a shared experience, where true empathy and
understanding can be found.
ICASN acts to facilitate the interconnections
between ICAs by utilising a confidential Database.
Details of our members are maintained to help
ICAs keep in touch with each other and form their
own friendships.
ICASN is a network run by ICAs for ICAs.
ICASN believes in supporting the ICA no matter where they are in
their journey of discovery.
ICASN aims to reduce feelings of aloneness and isolation in
the experience of cross-cultural adoption.
ICASN believes in connecting as many ICAs from as countries of
birth as possible and forming sub-support groups that allow the sharing of
experiences and resources relevant to that country of birth.
ICASN believes in raising awareness to
the issues that ICAs face to the wider community,
enhancing understanding and support.
